In a recent survey by ice cream machine maker Gaggia, the UK predictably voted chocolate as the favourite ice cream flavour. The best ice cream I have ever eaten was pistachio and red grape, made in a neighbourhood restaurant just outside Sorrento. I haven’t found anything like this at home, but here are my favourite places in the Midlands where you can scoop delicious and unusual ice cream flavours.
A family run business that has been serving ice cream since 1934 is Henley Ice Cream from their delightful 16th-century ice cream parlour and tea rooms at Henley-in-Arden. With more than 40 farm-made flavours on offer, you’ve got a menu of delicious flavours including banana fudge, lemon meringue, ginger & lime and kirsch cherry to enjoy.
With an ice cream menu of sixteen tempting home-made varieties, peanut butter ice cream is a favourite for diners at Leamington Spa restaurant Queans. Chef and owner Laura Hamilton describes their ice creams as “refreshing, unique and peerless”.
Ringswood Ice Cream is a family farming partnership producing dairy ice cream using milk from their herd of pedigree cows. Their seventeen flavours include honey and almond and particular flavours can be made by special request, available either retail or wholesale from the farm based in Pailton near Rugby or delivered in the Midlands.
