Inspired by the prospect of a couple of sunny days, I thought that it would be perfect timing to write about some of my favourite places for eating outside in Warwickshire. From urban patio gardens to sweeping countryside and river views, there are some gorgeous places for alfresco eating in our county when the sun is out.
In Leamington Spa I would head for the Episode Hotel in Upper Holly Walk which has refurbished their terrace to offer a larger dining space. On their menu all chicken, eggs and Warwickshire pork are free range, while chef insists on using 28-day dry-aged beef from Herefordshire Cross herds. www.episodehotels.co.uk
To welcome the summer, the bunting is already out in the courtyard garden of The One Elm in Stratford upon Avon. Run by the Peach Pub Company (who also own the Rose & Crown in Warwick and The Almanac in Kenilworth) a consistent level of quality food and service is maintained in the historic setting near Shakespeare’s birthplace, so it is a popular place for tourists. http://www.oneelmstratford.co.uk
The 17 acres of grounds make a tranquil setting for the Chesford Grange Hotel in Kenilworth. As you’d expect from a 4 star hotel, the standard of food is excellent in both The River Room formal dining room and more relaxed Terrace Bar overlooking the gardens where rabbits make frequent appearances! http://www.qhotels.co.uk/hotels/chesford-grange-near-warwick
A great idea from the Hatton Arms in Warwick who will make up a picnic basket, packed full of cheeses, cold meats, pate, pickles, pork pie, bread, chutneys and salad. Then you can dine outside whilst enjoying unrivalled views over the vast green banks of the Hatton Locks, also known as the ‘Stairway to Heaven’. http://www.hattonarms.com
Following a £250K refurbishment in May, The Warwick in Hockley Heath is all geared for good weather with an impressive decking area and BBQ. The gastro pub sources local regional produce for its menu. http://thewarwickhockleyheath.co.uk/
