My very first blog post was on the great independent coffee shops and cafés in Birmingham city centre. Last summer Six Eight Kaffe and Brewsmiths were new and have since been joined by Yorks Bakery Café on Newhall Street. Now there are two more new venues, so it is still easy to avoid branded chains that don’t pay their full UK tax quota.
Home cafe and deli has just opened in Church Street. They describe their fare as ‘Simple good deli food nothing challenging or complicated, just straightforward hearty ingredients and recipes’. I like the mismatched chairs and pictures in the interior and can’t wait to take in the aroma of freshly baked bread, roasted salt beef and toasted coffee brewing the next time I am in the city centre. http://www.homecafedeli.com
On 8 December Boston Tea Party is due to open on Corporation Street. As a family owned award- winning café group based in the West Country, this will be their first venture in the Midlands. We can expect Pulled Pork Wrap, Warm Mushroom, Walnut and Pearl Barley salad and Egg and Bacon Tart on their menu with products sourced from ethical and local suppliers. http://www.bostonteaparty.co.uk
