Chef’s Dozen onward and upwards

I have written about the chefs dozen in Alcester a few times on my blog, so when I opened an email from Richard and Solanche saying that they are closing their restaurant I thought that it was sad news for Warwickshire diners.

The Chef's Dozen dish

I’ve included their full email below, keep reading though as they’ll explain their reasons for moving and how their culinary expertise will thankfully evolve.

“To all of the amazing people we’ve had the pleasure of meeting over the past two years: It is with mixed emotions that we announce that, due to strained relations with our landlady and the longstanding complications of the Longbarn Village site, we have decided not to renew our lease.

The past two years have been incredible. We have enjoyed every minute of building ‘the chef’s dozen’ into what it is and, looking back, we can’t believe what we’ve achieved in such a short period. We set out with the intention of stripping back the unnecessary restaurant fuss to concentrate on good value and big flavours with a relaxed and welcoming service – which, hopefully, you feel we have delivered.

We will be using this as an opportunity to evolve. We are building stronger relationships with our small-scale, artisan food producers – relationships that will give us access to even better ingredients, grown and hung to our very own specifications.

We will also be working on tweaks, designed to improve everyone’s experience and we’ll let you know all the details including where and when you can find version 2.0 of ‘the chef’s dozen’, in due course. Until then, you have just a few weeks to book your table to experience ‘the chef’s dozen’ version 1.0.

We certainly will take with us some truly magnificent memories. We want to thank you all for your kindness, generosity and continued support and we look forward to seeing you in the not-to-distant future.

P.S. If you know of any small-scale quality food producers in the Warwickshire and Worcestershire region that you think we should know about, please do tell us about them.”
