My latest foodie find is Springfield Kitchen, a local company making chutneys and preserves with imaginative flavours and seasonal tastes.
Former chef Kevin and his wife Lisa moved to Rugby and as novice gardeners, took on an unloved plot, “Springfield”. Working tirelessly to bring the garden back to its original beauty, they turned one lawn into four vegetable beds, often having to give produce away to friends and neighbours. They started to make chutneys, pickles and relishes for family and friends launching Springfield Kitchen last year.
I found them on Rugby market, with a recommendation from Paul at Rugby Real Bread, who commented that his scones and Kevin’s jams are a match made in heaven! (I have to agree with him after purchasing a jar of gooseberry jam for me and tomato and chilli chutney for the boyf.)
If you can’t get to Rugby market on Fridays, they have an online store and Kev will be one of the producers at the Birmingham Independent Food Fair on 13 September at Millennium Point.
