The refurbishment of the Eagle and Ball pub has moved on since this image was taken, but the launch has been put back to October due to ongoing building work on the Birmingham City University Curzon campus site. Don’t fret though there are still some interesting new openings to tempt us out in September.
Kicking us off with a fresh new approach to eating and drinking is Alex (Nomad) Claridge. Alex has found a home for his latest pop-up in Urban Coffee on Church Street, Birmingham from Wednesday to Saturday nights. Teaming up with Chris Hughes and Thomas Harrison, to bring us The Man and the Myth, this a wine bar serving small plates with no fixed menu or prices. Alex is only hinting at what they might be preparing but could include – smoked haddock, miso, sour cream, cauliflower, kohlrabi and venison tartare, apple, hazelnut, spiced red cabbage. Bloggers Out in Brum have visited recently, so keep an eye out for their review.
With the best will in the world it is not possible to review every new opening, which is why I’m sending my ‘burger boys’( i.e. my boyfriend and his pal who can eat their own body weight in meat) along to the soft launch of Meating in the Arcadian next weekend. They are really looking forward to the charcoaled rare breed meats – so Andy & Andy have been warned!
Still for meateaters – Meatcure already has two branches in Market Harborough and Leicester and now they are crossing over the border into Leamington Spa to take over the space that used to be Rhubarb on Warwick Street. Expect handmade stacked burgers with all of the sides washed down with craft beers when they open at the end of September.
If they weren’t following me on Twitter I wouldn’t have found out about Fizzy Moon. Hardly any details available yet on this new brewhouse due to open on Regent Street, so follow them on Twitter for updates @FizzyMoonLeam.
In Coventry a new Asian street food restaurant has opened, imaginatively called Street Earlsdon High Street is the home of this new find, serving beef masimen curry and Singapore soy and honey glazed salmon amongst its rice, noodles and ramen dishes. I will be trying out their takeaway shortly so will be able to report back on how they fare.
