News of great local producers and food businesses keep popping into my inbox, courtesy of the Carlsberg Northampton Food and Drink Awards.
Although the winners are not announced until the Autumn it has whetted my appetite to find out more about some tasty independents that are right on my doorstep.
Bread & Pullet
An English tapas restaurant that showcases local suppliers (inc Friars Farm, Bite Me Spices and The Happy Little Cake Company) with their small and large plates of classic British dishes.
A beacon amongst the fast food chains on the Welly Road (close to recently opened The Lighthouse) serving freshly ground coffee and inventive healthy snacks.
Magee Street Bakery
Speciality coffee shop and bakery selling sourdough breads, hand roasted coffee and all things sweet and savoury from Pimms cake to Iberico chorizo Scotch eggs.
A buzzing kitchen at the edge of Market Square open for breakfast and brunch, with a short menu of quality and lovingly made food including pizzas.
St Giles Cheese
A store packed with delights – biscuits, chocolate, pasta, sauces, wine plus British, French and European cheeses.
The Italian Shop
A treasure trove of cured meats, cheeses and antipasti, which you won’t find in supermarkets. Local chef and cookery writer Carmela Sereno Hayes hosts her cookery classes and supper clubs here too.
