News of great local producers and food businesses keep popping into my inbox, courtesy of the Carlsberg Northampton Food and Drink Awards.

Although the winners are not announced until the Autumn it has whetted my appetite to find out more about some tasty independents that are right on my doorstep.

An English tapas restaurant that showcases local suppliers (inc Friars Farm, Bite Me Spices and The Happy Little Cake Company) with their small and large plates of classic British dishes.

Buddha Bowl Ground Coffee Northampton

A beacon amongst the fast food chains on the Welly Road (close to recently opened The Lighthouse) serving freshly ground coffee and inventive healthy snacks.

Speciality coffee shop and bakery selling sourdough breads, hand roasted coffee and all things sweet and savoury from Pimms cake to Iberico chorizo Scotch eggs.

A treasure trove of cured meats, cheeses and antipasti, which you won’t find in supermarkets. Local chef and cookery writer Carmela  Sereno Hayes hosts her cookery classes and supper clubs here too.
