From the UK’s first bar creating mead cocktails to a new wine bar, it is time to sup up in this week’s Table Talk.
Birmingham bar The Vanguard has launched the UK’s first mead cocktail menu. Owner Samuel Boulton is mixing the ancient drink into eight stunning cocktails with lemon grappa and pear brandy in Bassano Word; blackberry, violet and Prosecco blend into The Bubble Fiend and Up the Garden Path is delightful floral concoction of chartreuse, midori, elderflower and apple.
The owners of Iron and Rose wine merchant in Shrewsbury Market Hall are opening their second venue – a new wine bar – Glouglou. Inspired by the Italian enoteca, the kind of place where you can stop for a quick drink and a snack and pick up a bottle for dinner, or spend a few hours sharing delicious wine and food with friends. The emphasis is on real, natural, downright delicious wines accompanied by little plates of carefully considered food. They are aiming to open on Castle Gates by the end of March.
Digbeth Dining Club is visiting Shrewsbury on Saturday 23 March. The event at Seven Social will feature DJs, live music, cocktails, craft beer and street food from traders including The Brownie Bus, Cleopatras Kitchen, Middle Feast, Dim Sum Su, Greidy’s Wings + Strips, Nyama Choma, Flying Cows, Baked in Brick & Chef Shack. From 1pm to 10pm, tickets are £1 in advance or £2 on the door.
