In the spirit of shop local, eat local, I’ve set up a new Destinations page with guides to the food shops, producers, farmers markets, cafes and restaurants in Warwickshire. The first guide is on Rugby.
The Rugby page features – The Rose Tea Rooms, The Abraxas Cookshop, Delish Deli, Wild & Free, Rugby Farmers Market, Vermillion, Cafe Gnosh, Cafe Vin Cinq, Summersaults, Cheese on The Green, Malt Kiln Farm Shop and boutique hotel Number Sixteen.
Guides on Coventry, Kenilworth, Leamington Spa, Stratford upon Avon and Warwick to follow, so let me know if you have any recommendations.
Wherever you are in Warwickshire, local chefs have created delicious lunch and afternoon tea menus to treat your mum on Mothering Sunday.
Tailors of Warwick has a Spring menu for lunch that includes Sweet pea and truffle soup and Braised blade of beef with roasted red onion, wild mushrooms and a potato puree as choices in the two courses for £25 or three courses for £29 menu.
Over in Kenilworth, mums can enjoy contemporary French dining at Petit Gourmand. Classic dishes French onion soup and Bouillabaisse with saffron potatoes feature on the three course lunch menu for £23.50 which also includes coffee and petit fours.
It is difficult to resist three tiers of finger sandwiches, scones and freshly baked cakes – especially when they look as delicious as those at the Church Street Townhouse.
Restaurant 23 starts serving afternoon tea from 5th March, so your mum could be enjoying the tasteful design and surroundings of Peter Knibb’s new opening in Holly Walk Leamington Spa.
A short walk away from Caldecott Park, The Rose Tea Rooms in Rugby is normally closed on a Sunday but is open on Mothering Sunday for afternoon tea at a very reasonable £12.50. This includes a selection of finger sandwiches, scones and cakes and tea from a choice of more than twenty blends of loose tea served in pretty china teapots (which you can also buy).
