Kitsch Kitchens

In amongst the established chains, it is heartening to see two new independent venues opening in Coventry – Hana Moon and Bayley Lane Kitchen.

Hana Moon Japanese restaurant Coventry

Not too far away from Pool Meadow bus station you  will find a modern Japanese restaurant Hana Moon. Styled on traditional Japanese restaurants, with a chef at a teppanyaki grill, the menu offers a good selection of sushi and ramen to fill you up before going upstairs for a spot of karaoke.

Bayley Lane Kitchen Coventry

Bayley Lane Kitchen, in the shadows of the Cathedral, is a cocktail bar with a short food menu with an emphasis on local ingredients. Seared wood pigeon with bacon and chestnut puree, pan-fried sea bass with mussel tagliatelle and mulled wine poached pear with salted caramel ice cream feature on the menu but it is the short cocktail list that caught my attention.

I’m hankering after a PINA DE AGAVE  – Anejo tequila shaken with fresh lime juice, homemade pineapple shrub, spiced simple syrup and mescal. Served on the rocks with mescal infused pineapple chunks. Closely followed by a CLEAR WATERS  – coconut rum, lychee liqueur, coconut water, lychee juice, fresh lime and apple flavoured mint.

Have you been to either of these places? I’d love to hear what you think of them.
